“What must we do to do the works God requires?
Jesus answered, ‘The work of God is this: To believe in the one he has sent…For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life…’” John 6:28-29 and 40
What we are to DO (the work) is to BE (believe)!
To believe – pisteuó A verb – an action word!
This week we start 1 Samuel.
This is an important historical book. Samuel’s role of prophet “is close to that of Moses since he, more than any other person, provided for covenant continuity in the transition from the rule of Judges (generally moral chaos) to that of the monarchy (King Saul and then David).”
Author – unknown but must have had access to records of Samuel, Saul and David. Jewish tradition states that the book was written by Samuel, with additions by the prophets Gad and Nathan. Composed 630–540 BC.
